Blue Boreas Rising is an abstract piece created in 2020, and can be hanged in four orientations. Depending on how you choose to hang the painting, you may see a bird, a whirlpool, a mountain, or something else entirely.

Artist's Commentary
The spirit behind Blue Boreas Rising came from a trip many years back. I was onboard a ship crossing the Drake Passage, which proved every bit as rough (if not more) than its reputation implied. 

Given the rough conditions at sea, I liked to pass the hours on the top deck, getting fresh air and just taking in the vastness of the ocean and the sky. It was also a good way to spot a bird never seen in civilisation - the wandering albatross.

I remember one afternoon I saw a particularly large albatross flying right overhead, and it was just a moment full of wonder. There I was, feeling distinctly mortal and rather green thanks to the tossing seas, and there it was, this mighty creature that flies for tens of thousands of miles without landing, looking completely unruffled in the harsh elements.

There was a lightness and ease in that instant as the albatross soared away into the blue, and it was the spirit of that moment I wanted to capture most in Blue Boreas Rising.
